What knitter am I?
Ok, this may seem like a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway. What level knitter am I? I've been knitting for three years, but I've never done short rows or fair isle. Am I considered a beginner still? When do you cross that threshold?
Why am I asking? Rosie's finally put up some info on the Teva Durham workshops on their blog and apparently there are two classes. I don't really want to go for the ballet top, but do I go for the short row one? Or how about I don't go to either and just show up with my book? Nah, I want to take a class.
What do you guys think?

Absolutely do the short row and don't even THINK about going for the beginner class. If you can increase and decrease you are an advanced beginner, and if you can make lace you are FAR in the intermediate realm. Besides... if you go to the beginner class you'll have to sit through all their STUPID questions like "what's a slipknot" or "could you explain knit two together?" or "what are those two pointy sticks and that string doing over there?" Yeah.
ha, they'ss probably want to know whats the most expensive chunky or novelty yarn they can use as well
and apparently I can not type!
Maybe it's time for you to dive into socks!
Socks are great practice for short rows!
Or Pasha from Knitty. It's an easy way to try out short row shaping. (They're really easier than they look, but practicing doesn't hurt.)
Never having done something is precisely the reason why you SHOULD go to the workshop. You may not wind up doing the sweater in fair isle, but short rows aren't that big a deal and it'll give you a chance to try some new things. Besides, just because it says it isn't intended for beginner knitters doesn't mean it IS intended for ADVANCED knitters. If you're abilities have gotten beyond garter-stitch scarves, you're not a beginner anymore.
