Bulky Cabled Cardigan

Pattern:
Bulky Cabled Sweater by Glampyre
Yarn: HPY 6ply Merino in Velvet Grapes (5.5 hanks)
Needles: 8mm, 7mm, and 5.5mm Addi Turbos
Date Started: 1.05.05
Date Finished: 1.26.05

I've been wearing this all weekend and it feels great. It's comfy, warm, and soft; basically everything I wanted out of it. Hell, I even got a few compliments while out, which is always a boost to the old ego (especially when they didn't assume I made it). My new nifty sweater shaver was a must for this yarn and now I've gone a little crazy with it and started shaving every project or swatch I have laying around. Who knew it could be so addicting?

The bulky merino is one of those yarns that scares you after washing. The sweater looked like it grew by six inches while wet and I started to freak out until I remembered my swatch doing the same thing. As it dried, the merino sprung back to the right measurements. I still think I'll reblock it and get a little more length out of the sleeves and maybe the body. Actually, the one thing I want to redo is the buttonhole band. I picked up the same number of stitches and placed the buttonholes as the pattern states, but I'm not feeling that bottom buttonhole. I think I'm going to reknit to space them out differently or at least add another one so I can close up the hem. Well, maybe I'll just sew on another button and just use the stitches as the buttonhole.

looks great! i've knit some hats with malabrigo bulky and its hard to take them off (despite the pilling... but i also have a hankering for sweater shaving, so its no problem)

your inner struggles paid off. The piece looks great.

I love sweater shaving today. So satisfying.

It looks really great. I see what you mean about the bottom button hole. it looks fine, but I think it would look even better if you moved it down a wee bit. Either way the whole project is beautiful!

Looks great! I think this handpainted yarn worked perfectly for this sweater!

May I ask which size you decided to knit up? (is it polite to ask another blogger her measurements:) I ask becasue I think we are about the same size and I have such a problem picking a size...

Well, it seems all of the deliberation led you to make a beatuiful finish product. the colors are great and I still love the sexy way it comes off of your shoulders.

I'm also curious about the sizing because I think we're also similar but I've been very nervous to make any bulky knits. How much eash did you go with?

I love your sweater, especially the color! I feel the same way about HPY bulky merino; it is so soft to wear but felts immediately. But I'm sure you'll love wearing your sweater!

Ah HAH! Looks excellent...those buttons are a great touch. I'd want to move the bottom buttonhole, too, but would totally be too lazy to do it - I salute your fortitude.

I totally take back what I said before about varigated yarn.

What is the colour of the yarn you are using for hourglass? I love that pink!

You are really talented. Everything looks gorgeous.

Oh, thanks for giving me the link on how to wash my sweater on Craftster. I used it and it worked wonderfully!
